The beautiful power of perseverance ~ Domenico Pratico, MD, FCPP
One of the most frequent comments I’ve heard throughout my career as a physician and researcher in healthy aging is that as people age, they often worry about the challenges that lie ahead. Many also inquire about the secret to rediscovering the resilience they possessed in their youth, which helped them confront adversity with greater ease.
While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, I believe there are several suggestions that can assist individuals in cultivating or reigniting the virtue of perseverance they once had.

Here are seven simple steps:

  1. Perseverance requires foresight, so stay focused on your desired goal.
  2. Never retire your aspirations; keep striving for new achievements.
  3. Don’t give up, even momentarily. Endurance, not just innate talent, is a key driver of success.
  4. Falling isn’t a sign of weakness; getting back up after a fall demonstrates strength.
  5. Embrace challenges; view them as opportunities for growth and resilience.
  6. If you discover your passion, pursue it wholeheartedly. Ordinary individuals can achieve extraordinary feats in their lifetime.
  7. Surround yourself with people who exhibit perseverance. Learning from others’ endurance can inspire and strengthen you.
In essence, we can all cultivate resilience and perseverance by confronting life’s adversities with acceptance and determination.
